Adopt-a-Family Provides Christmas for over 70 Households
Back for a second year, United Way of Gratiot & Isabella Counties’ (UWGIC) Adopt-a-Family program grew to support even more families in 2023. After a pilot year, beginning with a partnership with the Mt. Pleasant Jaycees, UWGIC was excited to bring holiday magic to even more families by expanding the program into Gratiot County, while continuing in Isabella County. Our Adopt-a-Family program is designed to encourage referrals from our local schools, asking each school in both counties to share family referrals for households who could use a helping hand during the holiday season. This year, thanks to our many generous business and individual sponsors, we were able to support 72 households!
Not only did our sponsors bless families with toys, clothing, and other gifts from Christmas wishlists, but they purchased basic needs and care items, such as pillows, bedding, winter clothing and boots, diapers, cleaning supplies, and toiletries. In fact, our sponsors gave over $40,375 worth of items to families across Gratiot & Isabella Counties. On behalf of the families sponsored, the United Way team gives a sincere “thank you” to the sponsors, volunteers, and school staff who made our Adopt-a-Family program a huge success this year!
