CMU Honors Program Auction Raises Over $4,500 for Listening Ear
For nearly two decades, the Central Michigan University Honors Program has been an incredible force for good in the local community through its annual silent auction. Since its debut in 2006, the event has supported impactful initiatives, from the CCN Food Pantry to the Tiny Homes of Mt. Pleasant project and the Isabella Community Soup Kitchen. This year, the Honors Program chose Listening Ear Crisis Center as the beneficiary, continuing their tradition of giving back.
The Honors Silent Auction, held in November, featured 142 unique items for bid, showcasing the generosity and creativity of students, faculty, and the community. Among the standout items was a dinner for six with CMU’s new President, Dr. Neil MacKinnon, and his wife Leanne, which fetched the evening’s highest bid of $285. By the end of the night, the auction raised an impressive $4,585, all of which will directly support Listening Ear Crisis Center’s mission of providing crucial resources and support to those in need.
United Way was proud to partner with the CMU Honors Program, assisting with the auction’s checkout process and ensuring that every dollar raised reached Listening Ear Crisis Center efficiently. This collaboration exemplifies the power of partnership in making a meaningful impact in our community.
Special recognition goes to the dedicated students who made this year’s auction a success:
Aubrey Bice, Freshman, Biochemistry
Ellet Pryor, Student Events Coordinator, Sophomore, Social Studies Education
Katie Mahaffy, Freshman, Biology
Their hard work and commitment reflect the mission of the CMU Honors Program: to provide high-achieving students with unique opportunities for academic and personal growth while fostering a spirit of service and leadership.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Parry Williamson, Director of the Honors Program, for her outstanding leadership and vision. Her dedication to creating meaningful opportunities for students and fostering partnerships like this one ensures a lasting impact on both the students and the greater community.
