Local Audiology Clinic Boosts Book Access with $4,500 Gift

Allied Hearing’s contribution to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library supports family empowerment 

Allied Hearing, a locally owned audiology practice providing consultations, diagnostics, and custom solutions in the identification and treatment of hearing and tinnitus disorders, has donated $4,500 to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

The generous contribution helps support the longtime book-gifting program, which is part of the nonprofit Dollywood Foundation. As of February, the international program has awarded more than 232 million books around the globe since launching in 1995.

For Allied, it’s all about helping children and their families engage in empowering ways. “Hearing and reading open a world of imagination, learning, and joy,” said Shannon Smith, Au.D., audiologist and clinic owner. “This longtime book-gifting program was a perfect match for us.”

Community members helped make the support possible. In its bid to help provide 10,000 books, Allied Hearing in December pledged a portion of proceeds from hearing aid sales. The practice also donated $10 when new patients mentioned the book program or scheduled a hearing screening.

With the Imagination Library’s record of working with communities across the country, Allied Hearing’s donations were able to benefit local children. In addition to the U.S., however, the book-gifting program also operates in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland.

“We’re beyond proud to work with this organization to get free books into the hands of children in our own region,” said Smith, whose practice has helped Michigan residents hear and live better since 1985. “Like hearing, reading plays a role in overall wellness. Both go hand in hand with experiencing the wonders of life, unlocking potential, and creating unforgettable memories.”
